Six Creeks Mercantile was conceived from a 90 mile move...
When owner Colleen Teevin moved from an area of Idaho ripe with foodies, nutritionists and famous chefs to a community of farmers actually growing the food, her perspective changed. Often the weeders, packagers and growers weren't able to retain access to the fruits, vegetables and meat their own hands touched. Six Creeks Mercantile is in response to yet another broken level of the food system. What if eating organic, sustainably-raised food wasn't a privilege, but a right? What if everyone had access to affordable staples from which they could make simple, healthy meals for their families? What if we could help keep locally-grown food available to local consumers? What if we expanded our town's lunch options for those looking for something both quick and fresh?
Don't get us wrong: not everything at Six Creeks Mercantile is a staple, or is inexpensive. The prices at the bakery and ice cream counter reflect the time and energy it takes to make special, delicious treats from scratch, but they also help keep down the costs of the products that we do need on a daily basis: organic, pasture-raised eggs, organic, grass-fed beef, raw milk, organic potatoes, onions and dried beans and more. While we love organic farming, not everything we sell is made from organic ingredients: we keep prices reasonable on our healthy grab and go options by making them with conventional ingredients.
We are very easy to find. Glenns Ferry is right off Hwy 84, equidistant from Boise and Twin Falls. The Mercantile sits at the very western end of 1st Ave, the main drag through town.
Remodeling
Glenns Ferry is a small town on the Snake River, full of character and a number of historic buildings. 181 W 1st Ave was originally a hardware store. Among other items, folks could buy coal: they would drive onto the scale in back and coal would be dropped from a window upstairs. You can still see the ground scale outside and the scale arm inside. Colleen had been considering opening a mercantile for some time, and when 181 W 1st Ave came up for sale, she bought it and went to work with a new vision.

"A little shop worth the 2-minute detour from the HWY. I camped nearby and arrived about 15 minutes before they opened. The staff saw me walk up and welcomed me inside even though they weren't open. The coffee was amazing and the chocolate chip muffin was one of the best I've ever had (it was even still warm). I'm honestly looing for an excuse to get back to this little gem. Prices are also extremely fair." -Charlie
"Smiling faces and the best cappuccino I've had since in Italy 1983-1985." -Skuffel
"I'm driving my way back North to Alaska and stumbled to this beautiful spot. The atmosphere is welcoming and the food is local and house made that beats any Starbucks. I used to work as a barista in college and this place makes top notch espresso coffee. Would highly recommend." -Clarissa

"I've tried two different sandwiches and both were great! Went in for coffee and she has just made blueberry scones so obviously I had to try one. Did not disappoint. Great coffee and baked goods." -Damian
"This is a proper mercantile. From the fresh produce, dairy and meats, to the coffee and ice cream bar. Everything has a place. The decor is a quaint minimalist farmhouse. The atmosphere of the lounge area makes one either want to spend time here to just relax, or get some remote work done. Try the Hot Eric Coffee! A perfect blend of flavor and spices!" -Phillip
"We stopped by Six Creeks Mercantile on our way from Boise to Idaho Falls a few weeks ago. The market had just opened a couple of days prior. If you are a coffee lover, I cannot recommend the coffee ice cream enough! It was hands down the best I ever had. Service is super nice. Plus, we love the fact that we can purchase organically grown produce from farmers in the area. The place is a gem!" - Maren
